Corvette ZR1 Will Be Fastest and Most Powerful of Its Kind

Corvette ZR1 Will Be Fastest and Most Powerful of Its Kind

This goal was conveyed to Road & Track by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter, who spoke with the publication at the ZR1 reveal at the Dubai Motor Show. With a supercharger able to squeeze in 52 percent more air than the one in the Corvette Z06, the ZR1's engine ended up being almost three inches taller, hence a pretty sizable bonnet bulge.

The ZR1 will offer two aero packages: a standard rear Low Wing, which delivers the highest top speed and helps generate up to 70 percent more downforce than the Z06's base aero package, and an available two-way-adjustable High Wing that offers maximum downforce on the track for the quickest lap times - about 60 percent more downforce than the Z06 with the available Z07 Performance Package.

The Corvette is generally thought of as an accessible sports auto, but GM refers to the ZR1 as a "Supercar".

The ZR1 features a carbon fibre hood with an opening in the middle from where the engine's supercharger and intercooler peek out.

Wing High Wing is part of a package ZTK Performance, which also includes carbon-fiber splitter with end plates, active dampers with magnetorheological fluid and tires Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. GM's first dual-fuel-injection system, which employs primary direct injection and supplemental port injection, helps the LT5 achieve its record output. Both wings are tied directly to the chassis like it's the case with the C7.R race vehicle.

For shifting duties, buyers can choose from a seven-speed manual and an eight-speed automatic.

An optional Sebring colour is offered along with matching brake calipers, contrast orange interior stitching, orange highlights on the outside, orange seat belts and a bronze aluminium interior trim.

This powertrain pushes the mighty Corvette ZR1 to a 210-mph top speed. In addition, for the first time in the history of the line ZR1 in addition to a 7-speed "mechanics" in conjunction with the motor now offered to more and 8-band "automatic".

2018 - order books for the new Corvette ZR1 open up in spring next year.
