HomePod only coming in early 2018, says Apple to disappointed holiday shoppers

They continued: "We'll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018". Apple's new smart speaker will not arrive in time for the holidays as scheduled.

Apple has not given a direct reason to delays, but it seems fairly obvious that the company would've liked to release it to the public before Christmas.

Apple has forecast between $84 billion and $87 billion in revenue for the holiday - mostly driven by sales of its $999 iPhone X - so it's unlikely that missing a few weeks of sales of its $349 speaker will affect its financial results, Bob O'Donnell, founder of Technalysis Research, said.

Note that the "early 2018" date is a somewhat ambiguous date.

SiriKit for HomePod is a great bet and hence Apple does not want to leave loose ends while trying to offer the best possible experience. Apple just said it needed more time to finish the product, and thus we do not know if the problems were in hardware or software.

Priced at $349, Apple's smart speaker was originally set to be released in December.

Apple's main pitch for its HomePod smart speakers was superior audio quality, but that advantage appears to be slipping: Sonos, which also pitches its speakers' audio quality for music lovers, now features support for the Alexa voice assistant.

The downside is that during all this time, there are many technological companies that have shown their novelties in the segment of smart loudspeakers. Also, the Echo Plus, which will enable the control of connected devices in our home. Amazon's Echo lineup and Alphabet Inc's Google Home speakers have been dominating the market and with a price tag of United States $349, the HomePod already have a stiff competition from its own price tag.

The Apple Homepod will be available in two colors: black and white.

Apple introduced the voice-controlled HomePod in June. Previously, we saw some leaked images of the "smart speaker" from Apple.

It is rare but not unprecedented for Apple to delay a product launch.
