PSL 3 draft ceremony kicks off with renowned Cricket stars

The 38-year old West Indies batsman was among the high-profile cricketers who did not get picked by any of the six teams during the draft ceremony in Lahore on Sunday. Supplementary players: Angelo Mathews, Mitchell McClenaghan, Gulraiz Sadaf.

Emerging Players Round 1: Lahore Qalandars - Shaheen Shah Afridi, Islamabad United - Sahibzada Farhan, Karachi Kings - Mohammad Irfan Jr, Quetta Gladiators - Saud Shakeel, Peshawan Zalmi - Sameen Gul, Multan Sultans - Abdullah Shafique.

During the inaugural edition of the PSL in 2016, Gayle represented Lahore Qalandars and scored just 103 runs from five matches at an average of 20.60.

"All franchises unanimously chose to increase the player salary cap by US$ 25,000 allowing teams to pick a squad of 21 players for this season", said a PCB statement.

Proteas all-rounder and Cape Cobras skipper JP Duminy, who had recently retired from Test cricket, was picked by Islamabad United.

The Quetta Gladiators chose Australian master blaster Shane Watson while the champions of PSL season 2 Peshawar Zalmi picked Dwayne Bravo as their Platinum player.

Lahore Qalandars picked Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rehman in the diamond category while Islamabad United selected New Zealand's Luke Ronchi.

Towards the end though, Lahore ran out of budget and couldn't partake in the fourth round of the supplementary draft, while Karachi made a decision to pick a player at the end of their talent hunt program, which effectively meant that they would have to pick from the emerging players' pool.

Gold round: Karachi Kings - Luke Wright, Islamabad United - Faheem Ashraf, Peshawar Zalmi - Hammad Azam, Quetta Gladiators - Rahat Ali, Lahore Qalandars - Bilal Asif, Multan Sultans - Ahmed Shehzad. However, signing Rashid Khan as a supplementary player (means the player will not be available for the full season but will play a part) is a good choice.

Peshawar Zalmi have picked all-rounder Saad Nasim and batsman Taimur Sultan. They have apparently been offered an additional sum of $10,000 to 20,000 per match if they travel to Pakistan. Supplementary players: Alex Hales, David Willey, Mohammad Hasan, Mohammad Hasnain.

The meeting was briefed about ways to streamline talent hunt programs.
