Trump and Time magazine dispute Person of the Year plans

This time, however, Trump decided that he was contacted about being TIME's Person of the Year for a second year in a row, and he said he "would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot", without official confirmation.

The US President - who received the accolade previous year, has tweeted to say "probably" wasn't good enough, so he "took a pass".

'Sports Illustrated called and said I was probably going to be Sportsman of the Year, but it was going to take a long photo shoot and interview. According to Trump, however, "probably" wasn't good enough. The magazine sent out a tweet of its own less than three hours later to say Trump "is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year".

Via Twitter, Trump claimed the magazine had told him he would "probably" be selected as Person of the Year. The magazine insists that it "does not comment" on the choice "until publication, which is December 6". TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.

Mr Trump's professed indifference to the award contrasts a little with previous years, where he has paid close attention to the judges' decision.

The magazine made it back into his good graces in early 2016, when he made the cover again, and later that year, when he was finally named Person of the Year after winning the November election. He wrote, "It's too bad though because Time Magazine is really hot!" Nope. Trump's problem is that the magazine wouldn't assure him the spot.

In a tweet late Friday as he spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Florida, Trump sounded dismissive of the honor he received a year ago and could well receive again.

"Donald Trump: The "Apprentice" is a television smash!" the headline on the fake cover read.

You can always print yourself another fake cover.
