Amazon Prime Video finally lands on the Apple TV

Amazon Prime Video finally lands on the Apple TV

Starting Wednesday, Amazon Prime users will be able to more easily watch movies and TV shows directly on Apple TV, rather than using a workaround to mirror content from an iPhone or another Apple device via AirPlay. Amazon's support for HDR is also ideal for those with an Apple TV 4K, as the set-top box supports Dolby Vision.

The online video giant says that integration with the Apple TV app, will mean that Prime Video members will be able to stream award-winning and critically-acclaimed titles including Amazon Original Movies, Prime Originals and Hollywood blockbusters and TV series and over 140 Channel subscriptions in the U.S. and 95 in the UK, Germany and Austria.

To access channels such as Amazon Prime or Netflix, you add them to the menu of Apple TV, Roku and FireTV, if they're not already preloaded, and then register your subscription credentials. But it's certainly not helping Amazon or its consumers for the company to limit its selection - particularly cutting out such popular competing products as Apple TV - without real justification. Google pulled the service because Amazon doesn't sell its products, the company told CNN Tech. First of all, although we are not investment analysts by any means, it makes for interesting viewing to look at the comparative five-year market summaries for Amazon vs. Google. Amazon's suite of voice-controlled devices has outsold Google's so far, according to a study by research firm eMarketer from earlier this year. As you might know Nest is now a Google subsidiary.

Apple and Amazon seem to have buried the hatchet, at least for the time being.

There is no obligation for Amazon to carry products of any kind, and the company has exercised its editorial decision over its selection and products before. After being pulled from the No. 1 e-commerce site in 2015, the Apple TV box reappeared on the retail website in September, only to vanish again.

Google also takes 30% of sales made through its app platform, although with less strict controls than Apple, particularly in terms of directing people to other places they can sign up.

Attention Fire TV owners: YouTube might soon disappear from your Amazon streaming device. "Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website", Amazon's statement said.
