How to recycle your Christmas tree

How to recycle your Christmas tree

He said the program started more then 30 years ago and is stronger then ever, with a record number of trees collected last year.

For those in apartments, check with your property manager or landlord.

Frederick County does not provide curbside collection of Christmas trees.

John Lough, Senior City Forester with the Department of Streets and Sanitation Bureau of Forestry said the city recycled more than 21,000 Christmas trees last year and has recycled almost 250,000 trees during the 28 years the program has already run.

Trees must be cut into less than 4-foot lengths and tied.

The Southeastern Sustainability Center, at 2101 N. Oak St., Hammond, will collect trees beginning January 4 through the end of the month, from 7 a.m.to 4 p.m.

The parish's Public Works Department will pick up Christmas trees curbside around the parish on January 8, 9 and January 10. It does, however, have several drop-off sites for recycling open until Jan 28. Bundles must weigh less than 40 pounds.

There are also Christmas Tree removal sites for Lafayette residents including Shamrock Park and Armstrong Park. After Jan. 12, residents will need to schedule their pickup.

As it has done for decades, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has drop-off locations around the state where trees - with all ornaments and lights removed - can be left.

The city said the trees will be placed in selected coastal zones.

Alexandria residents can set their Christmas trees at the curb on their trash collection days by 6 a.m. After they're collected, they'll be ground into mulch.

Drop off sites are for City of Lafayette residential citizens only.

Residents without curbside recycling can bring their trees to the Solid Waste Bureau.

New Yorkers can even watch the process up close by bringing their trees to certain parks, where they may also choose to take the resulting mulch.

There will be a designated area at each location for the trees to be neatly stacked.

Groot will collect Christmas trees at no charge on residents' normal collection day throughout the month, according to a news release from the village.

If you live in an HOA or an incorporated town, check to see how and when curbside collection will be done. For more information, call Whispering Pines at 864-288-7458.
