N Korea labels US-South Korea drill 'dangerous'

On Wednesday, North Korea launched its third and most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, which experts now believe could reach the mainland United States.

A Honolulu-based newspaper said a missile launched in North Korea could reach Hawaii within 20 minutes.

North Korea said the missile reached a height of 2,796 miles and traveled 596 miles, demonstrating the potential to reach a range of 8,100 miles.

The test - one of several this year - has been condemned by the global community and the UN Security Council called an emergency meeting.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said sanctions were exhausted.

Separately, the council will meet to discuss human rights abuses in North Korea on 11 December.

Mr Xi said China would like to keep up communications with the U.S. and all other related parties and "jointly push the nuclear issue toward the direction of peaceful settlement via dialogues and negotiations", according to Xinhua. "President Trump called President Xi this morning and told him that we've come to the point where China must cut off the oil for North Korea".

The US remains determined to stop North Korea from building a credible nuclear force, but it's looking less likely it will be able to do so diplomatically.

China is a historic ally and North Korea's most important trading partner and Pyongyang is thought to be dependent on China for much of its oil supplies.

"The Chinese Envoy, who just returned from North Korea, seems to have had no impact on Little Rocket Man", Trump wrote.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watches the launch of a Hwasong-12 missile, September 16.

Some observers believe the Hwasong-15 missile that was tested on a high trajectory and splashed down in the Sea of Japan in the early hours of Wednesday in Asia could potentially reach Washington and the entire eastern United States seaboard.

"What matters is the fact that the drill simulating an actual war is to be staged at a time when insane President Trump is running wild", a commentary carried by the official Korean Central News Agency said.
