Race Tracks Collect Toys For Tots Dec. 2 & 3

A group of officers from the Lafayette Police Department donated toys for a good cause.

Those seeking assistance in providing toys to their children should contact their local food pantry. "Now, we collect toys during a month-long period, which fill a full-sized rented U-Haul truck".

"We have such an appreciation to residents of Summit who come out full force and always support it", Proctor told LocalSource on November 21.

A holiday tradition at Aqueduct, Toys for Tots will collect new, unwrapped toys, cash contributions, and checks made payable to Toys for Tots, with donation boxes located at the main Clubhouse entrance and the Turf and Field entrance.

Collection bins are dispersed throughout the city at the following locations: Summit Police Department Headquarters at 512 Springfield Ave.; Summit Fire Department Headquarters at 396 Broad St.; Summit post office at 61 Maple St.; Starbucks at 2 Beechwood Road; Lakeland Bank at 510 Morris Ave.; Peapack-Gladstone Bank at 48 Deforest Ave., and Wells Fargo Bank at 1 Maple St. The organization now rents space but is looking for donated space.

The program was created in 1947 when Maj. Toys for Tots Fresno County works with close to 200 organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, various churches and a number of schools.

The Toys for Tots drive's barrels and boxes are out, silently calling for people to take a little time, a little money, and help brighten the holidays for a needy child with a gift - a doll, a little vehicle or train, some crayons and paper for drawing and coloring.

"Last year we collected and purchased over 32,000 new toys and distributed them to needy kids in Fairfield County", said Henry Norley, chairman of the Northwest Fairfield County Toys for Tots campaign. Collecting toys under the Toys for Tots logo without turning the toys over to the Charleston Toys for Tots program is fraud. Donations received this year will purchase toys next October for the 2018 campaign just as the funds from last year purchased almost $20,000 in toys this year.
