Your American Airlines holiday flight is still on

Your American Airlines holiday flight is still on

However, it turned out that their good fortune in getting the holidays off was more than a spot of luck; there was a massive glitch that allowed pilots to schedule time off during a time when the airline couldn't afford to lose staff.

About American Airlines Group American Airlines and American Eagle offer an average of almost 6,700 flights per day to almost 350 destinations in more than 50 countries.

An error in the system that bids for pilots' time off based on seniority was responsible for approving too much time off to too many pilots in December, American disclosed to employees last week, launching the carrier into a frenzied effort to cover thousands of then-pilotless scheduled flights. But that means American will have to rebuild its schedule and is offering pilots time and a half their normal hourly wage.

"We anticipate that American will be able to maintain a full December schedule as planned", the pilots group said. By working together, we can assure customers that among the many stresses of the season, worrying about a canceled flight won't be one of them.

The two parties met Friday morning to discuss a fix for the situation.

However, the latest word from the airline is that these issues have been addressed.

The spokesman said the details of the agreement will be released later Friday, after it's circulated to the pilots.

But the union representing pilots disputed the airline's calculations, saying Thursday that "thousands of flights are still listed as unassigned". APA and management have reached an agreement in principle addressing our respective needs, and we have withdrawn our grievance.

American, the world's largest carrier, runs a big hub in Philadelphia with 390 daily flights, and will operate 200,000 flights throughout its system in December. The carrier expects that number to continue to decrease, and it has not had to cancel any flights as a result of the error. "Thank you for your outstanding support and for your commitment to our passengers' interests, who can now count on American Airlines to take them to and from their holiday destinations around the globe".
