2 local Sam's Club stores to close

The Loveland and Oakley locations now cease to operate.

In Batavia, City Administrator Laura Newman said 150 employees have learned they are losing their jobs. Can't say one way or the other.

"Transforming our business means managing our real estate portfolio", Furner said in the email to employees. Existing stores can be found at https://www.samsclub.com/locator.

"I don't want to deal with Sam's Club", he said.

TEGNA has reached out to Walmart and Sam's Club for comment.

"This closure has placed their ability to continue to operate in jeopardy", she said.

This comes in the same day parent company WalMart announced pay raises and bonuses for their employees. Some demanded refunds for their Sam's Club memberships, which cost between $45 and $100 a year.

"It's too bad. It's a shame".

Included in the closures is the Sam's Club in St. Louis Park and the one in Moorhead, according to reports.

The store in Jamestown was closed today and the announcement was made to employees on Thursday. The move reduces the number of Sam's Club locations in the United States to 597.

About 300 people will be terminated from the store closures, according to WARN notices to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

- On the same day Walmart announced it would boost starting salaries for USA employees, it also announced it would be closings dozens of Sam's Club stores across the country. "We know this is hard news for our associates and we are working to place as many of them as possible at nearby locations". "So that is why we closed the club today".

About 10 of the affected stores will be transformed into e-commerce distribution sites, the company said. "However, some guiding themes are clear and consistent with how we've been investing-lower prices for customers, better wages and training for associates and investments in the future of our company, including in technology". The payouts, which should total roughly $400 million, will result in a one-time charge that the company will take in its fiscal fourth quarter.
