Hyperkin Announce Development Of Tentatively-dubbed

While it remains unclear whether Nintendo will release a Game Boy Classic Edition this year similar to the insanely popular NES and SNES models, Hyperkin has chose to take matters into their own hands.

Nintendo is not re-releasing its iconic Game Boy console-not yet, anyway.

Hyperkin, a company well-versed in making peripherals and replacement parts (including various Game Boy accessories) for gamers, just rolled out what they're calling the "Ultra Game Boy" at the Consumer Electronics Show.

The £75 remake which Hyperkin is releasing this year will even work with all of your old Game Boy cartridges. Currently under development as the'Ultra Game Boy, the gadget makes a number of improvements on Nintendo's original conso

The Ultra Game Boy won't change the classic gameplay experience, and the console itself is very similar to the original, although it's made with aluminum, Gizmodo reports. Hyperkin gave Gizmondo a peek at the new hardware at CES 2018, and, at first glance, it pretty much looks like a straight-up Game Boy clone (get a better look here). However, a Game Boy Pocket this is not, as it offers a number of improvements over the handhelds we carried around as kids. The case's authenticity extends down to a cartridge slot that supports classic games and those familiar volume and contrast knobs on the edge, along with a new third knob letting players adjust the color of the system's backlight. There's a USB-C port for charging, stereo speakers, as well as left and right audio-out connections. Would you buy something like this, or are you going to hold out and wait for Nintendo to announce the Game Boy Classic instead? The most notable modern-day upgrade is certainly the Ultra Game Boy's built-in rechargeable battery.

The Ultra Game Boy removes the need for a separate Android phone, and slims down the form factor quite a bit.

Word is, Hyperkin is aiming to release the Ultra Game Boy this summer for less than $100. "It can play all of your classic Game Boy games, and possibly even your Game Boy Color carts, but you'll have to supply all of the original cartridge".
