Illini players preview Iowa game

Iowa forward Nicholas Baer (51) goes up with a shot between IL defenders Aaron Jordan (23) and Greg Eboigbodin (11) during overtime of their Big Ten Conference basketball game Thursday in Champaign, Ill. Unlike Iowa, Fighting Illini games have a tendency to go under the projected point total (69.2 percent).

IL tried to overcome a number of obstacles, including a suspension and the flu, and appeared to be well on its way as it built a 49-29 lead with just under four minutes to play in the first half.

Iowa first took the lead 83-82 - its first since 4-2 - with 3:01 left in regulation on a 3-point play by Luke Garza.

Jordan Bohannon scored 29 points to help Iowa rally from a 20-point deficit for a 104-97 overtime win over IL on Thursday night.

Jordan Bohannon led all scorers with 29 points, his highest point total in a Big Ten game this season and second highest output of the season (30 vs. UAB). Jennifer Nehls neared a double-double as she was the fourth Panther to reach double-figures with 10 points and eight rebounds.

IL is a 5.5-point favorite on the opening line, while the Over/Under (O/U) for the game opened at 154.5 points.

FYI: Bohannon has finished with five assists or more in 10 games this season for the Hawkeyes, including each of his past two.

"He's a very good player and I was disappointed with our focus on him", Harris said. "We were down 20 in the first half, but we weren't down 20 at halftime". Isiah Moss hit for 12, and the Hawks had 5 players in double figures. The sophomore went 5 of 12 from 3-point range, but none were bigger than that one.

According to the University of Iowa Sports Information, it's Iowa's second largest road comeback in school history. Illinois' Tony Wysinger had 34 points of 13-of-16 shooting.

"We came out right from the jump in the second half, " Garza said. The Panthers defeated the visiting Tigers 66-59 in their second overtime game this season.

Redshirt junior forward Leron Black scored 18 points, including 12 in the second half.

The Hawkeyes had a decisive advantage at the free throw stripe, finishing with season-highs in makes (33) and attempts (40).

Iowa's second-biggest comeback took place on January 14, 1987, also in Champaign, Ill. He saw a doctor in Minneapolis before the Illini played the Golden Gophers.

Iowa committed 17 turnovers in the game, but only six came in the second half and in overtime. The Hawkeyes grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, leading to plenty of second-chance points - 18 to be exact.

The game looked like what it was expected to be: Two teams fighting wildly and desperately to get their first Big Ten win.
