India Considers Israeli Spike Missiles Deal Through G-to-G Route

India Considers Israeli Spike Missiles Deal Through G-to-G Route

The message that will be sent from this second visit to India by a sitting Israeli head of government-following the historic visit of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in September 2003-will be that the world's largest democracy and the Middle East's only democracy are more than trading partners, more than platforms for technology exchange, more than attractive tourist destinations for their respective populations. Over 150 corporate leaders will be accompanying the prime minister on the trip.

Events since then seemed as if they might rock the relationship somewhat.

Israel is India's third largest defense partner after Russian Federation and the US.

Speaking to a gathering of foreign journalists on Wednesday evening, Netanyahu said he was disappointed that India voted in favor of the resolution at the UN General Assembly condemning the United States decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. In February 2014, India and Israel signed three important agreements on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, Cooperation in Homeland Security, and Protection of Classified Material.

"But I don't think it materially changes the tremendous flowering of relations between India and Israel". "So the optics are strong from the get-go". Meetings with President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu are also scheduled for Monday.

January 17 sees him joining Modi on a visit to the Indian leader's home state of Gujarat. Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. won almost $2 billion in contracts from India previous year alone. At the time, Indian media reported that India's Defence Research and Development Organisation planned to develop and produce its own anti-tank missile domestically.

Army chief General Bipin Rawat and Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba will address a session, along with Admiral Harry Harris, Commander, US Pacific Command, General Chris Deverell, Joint Forces Commander, UK, among others, the statement said. Carmon said the Spike project was an example of "Israeli engaging in Make in India" because it can be implemented through partnership between an Israeli company and Indian company. "Both Netanyahu and Modi have common political and ideological backgrounds, with nationalism leading the narratives from a Hindu point of view for Modi and Zionist point of view for Netanyahu". Not surprisingly, during his visit, Modi enthusiastically coined the term, "I4I", standing for "India for Israel and Israel for India", while Netanyahu spoke of: "I squared, T squared", standing for, "India-Israel Ties for Tomorrow".

Thus, despite the bloated rhetoric by Rightwing elements on both sides, ties between Israel and India will remain transactional.
