Jacob Eason announces departure from UGA

Quarterback Jacob Eason announced his departure from the Georgia football team via social media on Friday.

Eason, who started for the Bulldogs last season and was the team's starter in Week 1, suffered a knee injury that knocked him out of the team's season opener against Appalachian State.

Clearly Fromm, who is a year younger, is Georgia's new starting quarterback, leaving Eason looking at being a backup.

Eason was a five-star prospect, the top-ranked quarterback in the 2016 class and Gatorade National Player of the Year when he picked Georgia over Washington, the school just 30 miles southeast of his Lake Stevens, Wash., home. Browning would hold on to his job, obviously, in 2018 and then give way to Eason the next season and he would then have two years of eligibility. He considered the Huskies coming out of high school. I did what I could to help the team get better and I was there with Jake and with Brice [Ramsey]. Jake Browning, unless he surprisingly declares for the National Football League draft in the next several days, will finish his career as a senior next season. He did not name his destination, though the Seattle Times reported on Tuesday morning that multiple sources said he was expected to transfer to Washington.

In his first year at Georgia, (per ESPN) Eason threw for 2,430 yards, 16 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. In limited time this past season, Eason completed four of seven passes for 28 yards.

He added: "You could be mad about it, you could sulk about it all season, but I took what happened and did what I could with it". Jake Browning, the 2016 Pac-12 offensive player of the year, will return to the Huskies for his senior season as the undisputed starting quarterback. Eason would have to compete for the starting role since Washington just signed two quarterback recruits Colson Yankoff and Jacob Sirmon.
