Kelly Clarkson opens up about decision to spank her kids

United States singer Kelly Clarkson has admitted she smacks her children and says she doesn't think there is anything wrong with it.

After revealing earlier this week that she advocates parents spanking their children when they need a talking to, Kelly Clarkson was hit with a wave of hate on social media, blasting her for being a "lazy" and "ignorant" parent.

Kelly was wrapping up her interview with Ryan Seacrest when she spotted the actress, and immediately went to meet her, asking: "Can I meet you?!"

"I'm not above a spanking, which people aren't necessarily into", Clarkson explained. "I'm from the South, ya'll, so we get spankings", the three-time Grammy victor continued.

Upon seeing Cuomo's review, Clarkson tweeted that she "might be tearing up", adding, "Seriously, I can't believe you're listening to my record and this has made my 2018". However, she finds the warning of an impending spanking is often enough to stop River in her tracks. And then I'd get spanked at home as well. It's so hard to not drink your punch, and I think a lot of people fall prey to that ...

After her comments, she drew criticism and praise. When it comes to how she's raising her children, the singer is pretty open, too - regardless of what others might think.

"If parents spanked their kids more they wouldn't grow up acting like monsters", wrote one Facebook commenter.

But some weren't so impressed. They say something and you're like, 'Damn.' They'll call you out. But just 26 percent said grade-school teachers should be allowed to spank kids at school. "Discipline older children by temporarily removing favorite privileges, such as sports activities or playing with friends".

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents "do not spank or use other physical punishments" when disciplining children in a statement on their website.
