Mitt Romney treated for prostate cancer

Mitt Romney treated for prostate cancer

Former 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney was treated for prostate cancer a year ago.

One Romney aide said that he "was diagnosed with slow-growing prostate cancer". Romney was reportedly discussing running for the now open Senate seat in 2018 if Hatch retired. "The cancer was removed surgically and found not to have spread beyond the prostate", the source said.

Now with a clean bill of health, the former governor of MA is being encouraged to run for Utah Senator this year.

Romney's treatment, which involved surgery at the University of California-Irvine Medical Center, was successful, and he has a good prognosis, the sources said.

Fox News also confirmed the diagnosis and treatment.

Despite outside speculation, Romney hasn't announced any future campaign plans.

If he ran and won, Romney, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, could become a powerful foe of the White House in the Senate GOP caucus. As a private citizen, there would be no reason for such a personal health disclosure, but political candidates are often expected to reveal health-related news that could have a bearing on voters' decisions.

Gaz wrote that Romney had a mild enlargement of the prostate and that his family has a history of prostate cancer.
