Pakistan riots over rape and murder of 8-year-old Zainab Ansari

Zainab was the eighth minor to have been raped and murdered in Kasur in the past year, the official said.

A Pakistani police chief has been sacked for mishandling an investigation into the disappearance of a six-year-old girl who was raped and murdered.

In the news bulletin, Naz points out the sad irony, that while the girl's parents were praying for their daughter's long life in Saudi Arabia and buying her toys, a "monster in Pakistan was raping her and throwing her body in trash".

Chilling CCTV footage captured the moment a male suspect lad her away before she was strangled to death.

Five days after the kidnapping, on January 9, the girl's body was found on a garbage heap in the city, and the autopsy revealed that she was raped before being strangled to death.

Zainab's brutal murder has spurred a massive campaign on social media, with people demanding #JusticeForZainab. District Police Officer Kasur, Zulfiqar Hameed says that police is investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers of Zainab was offered in Kasur in which a large number of people including Chairman Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri participated.

To add to it, police firing on protesters venting their anger over the incident left two people dead on Wednesday.

The injured have been shifted to the hospital for medical assistance whereas the security personnel are busy in dispersing the locals.




Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif said he would personally monitor this case and would not rest till culprits were brought to justice.

Lawyers boycotted judicial proceedings at district bar in protest and demanded early action into the matter. "We just want justice for Zainab", a protester was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.

Zainab disappeared last week on her way to a place in the neighbourhood, she visited for Quranic studies.

"The DNA and the modus operandi in five cases of child sexual abuse are the same", he said.

Zainab Amin's killing has angered local people who say the authorities in Punjab province have done too little to keep their children safe after a series of similar killings.

The demonstrators have accused police of failing to act over the child murders.

"Heartbroken to hear about Zainab - a 7 year old child abused and brutally killed in Kasur, Pakistan", she tweeted. According to reuters, this is not the first time such incident has been reported from Kasur.

Pakistani politician and ex-international cricket player Imran Khan also condemned the incident and said that the guilty must be punished "swiftly".

Zanaid's was abducted from from outside her house in Pakistan's Punjab province.
