PUBG Has More Active Players Than Next 9 Steam Games Combined

Steam has put together an extensive showcase for the best of 2017, lining out a detailed listing of some of its superlative categories for the year.

PlayStation, on the other hand, was very particular about it. Kim shared that there were some instances when even though developers had already finished making the game, it still "took 6 months more to launch". Taking all the games from Steam's 2017 Best-Sellers list that qualify for MetaCritic scores, we set out to determine whether there was any significant link between review scores and sales performance on Steam.

CEO CH Kim has big plans for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Despite the game industry's insatiable hunger for new experiences, most of the top sellers on Steam in 2017 released in 2016 or earlier. Whether he's including the Nintendo Switch in that broad wave of the arm is unclear, but given that PUBG is receiving modified mobile variants in China - similar to the chibi, pared back mobile version of Final Fantasy XV - we reckon anything's possible for a game in this much demand.

Top Early Access games included titles like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Oxygen Not Included, Northgard, Dead Cells, and Blackwake. Platinum best-sellers include Kickstarter RPGs Torment: Tides of Numenera and Divinity: Original Sin 2. Kim has stated that they had little difficulty with the PC and Xbox One due to how unrestrictive the platforms were in terms of early access or beta allowance.

Before PUBG released, Dota 2 held the record.

At the tail-end of 2017, redditor "Macsterr" made a troubling post on the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds subreddit. Rainbow Six Siege, Warframe, and ARK: Survival Evolved just squeak in at around 100,000 peak players each.

However, up to today, developers of the game are yet to confirm whether or not "PUBG" is ever going to be released on the PlayStation 4 system.
