Tesla Issues Takata-Related Recall For 2012-13 Model S

Tesla Issues Takata-Related Recall For 2012-13 Model S

"Affected owners are urged not to drive these vehicles and to contact Ford immediately to schedule a free fix", a statement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. It previously reported a similar death in SC that occurred in December 2015.

The recall concerns 2006 model year Ford Ranger pick-up trucks sold in North America.

The NHTSA in November had stated that 19 automakers had recalled over 46 million inflators in 34 million United States vehicles - and by 2019 as many as 70 million USA inflators will have been recalled.

Ford, in a statement, said it is saddened by the deaths and offers its honest condolences to the drivers' families. These include 2,700 in the United States and almost 200 in Canada.

The Japanese supplier's US subsidiary filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last June as part of a court-approved agreement to sell its remaining assets to Key Safety Systems.

A Takata spokesman said the company will make all attempts to ensure it can deliver replacement inflators as soon as possible. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford will "send mobile fix teams to owners' homes, tow vehicles to a local dealership for fix, and provide loaner vehicles - all free of charge". "NHTSA's top priority is safety; it is extremely important that all high-risk air bags are tracked down and replaced immediately". Search using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Takata said in June that it has recalled, or expected to recall, about 125 million vehicles worldwide by 2019, including more than 60 million in the United States. A November NHTSA report said about two-thirds of USA vehicles recalled have not yet been repaired.

The recalls come after Takata revealed that another 3.3 million inflators are defective.
