More than 180,000 people will flock to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to see the world's biggest technology firms, including Samsung, Intel and Google, launch their latest developments and set the top trends for 2018. CNET editor Dan Ackerman noted on Twitter that his off-site hotel partially lost power two separate times for less than a minute.

"We have been informed by Nevada Energy that the outage impacting the Central Hall and South Hall meeting room connector of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) has been addressed and they are in the process of testing and restoring power".

Thousands of keen analysts, media and buyers were also kept from entering the Convention Centre's North Hall, which connected to the powerless section. Numerous high-tech displays showing off the latest electronics were not visible inside the hall. "We're going quickly to self-driving cars and artificial intelligence, the internet-Of-Things, and things that weren't even in our vocabulary 10 years ago and now they're major parts of CES", he said. "If our extension cord went over there we'd be out of power".

"A preliminary assessment indicates that condensation from heavy rainfall caused a flashover on one of the facility's transformers", the CTA, Las Vegas Visitor and Convention Authority and NV Energy - which provides electricity to the Las Vegas Convention Center - said in a joint statement.

CES will run from January 9th to 12th in Las Vegas.

Microsoft who is used to playing second fiddle to other big brands in the consumer market is trying to spruik Cortana primarily through industry partnerships. It's amusing to see a phone held captive in what's essentially an electricity vending machine as its owner paces back and forth.
