Florida couple sells everything for sailboat and it sinks

"It's just floating away and there's nothing I can do", said Nikki Walsh.

"We decided that we were going to sell all our things and move to a sailboat in the gulf", Broadwell said.

Broadwell said they were idling through John's Pass looking for a safe place to anchor overnight when their boat hit something underwater.

Broadwell and Nikki Walsh, 24, chose to sell all their belongings to save money to travel the world by sailboat. After they're back on their feet, the couple plans to buy a new boat. The couple sold all of their belongings and bought a 28-foot boat to travel the Gulf, but two days into their adventure, the boat struck something under the water and capsized.

And when assistance finally arrived 40 minutes later, rescuers said the water was too shallow for their vessel to navigate, forcing the pair to jump in and watch as their dream capsized.

They have set up a GoFundMe account to raise money to remove the boat from the ocean, which may cost thousands of dollars.

"I'm just standing there in awe", she recalled.

A US COUPLE'S plan for a better life has been sunk.

'I just lost everything I ever owned.

"Most of the work you do goes to your home".

They spent $5,000 buying the boat, whose name is Creole for "bonus", and another $5,000 to make it seaworthy. All of the possessions they left in the boat were ruined.

Walsh said they could only grab a few essentials, and put on their life jackets before they called for help.

Anything extra would go toward a new boat.

"I'm not going to give up now, I'm going to get another boat down the road".

"[I was] in disbelief that we're losing everything we worked so hard to get and planned so long for", Broadwell said. The page adds that they did not have insurance but that they aren't giving up on their dream.
