Kim Jong Un Calls for More Efforts to Improve Ties Between Koreas

Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, led North Korea's delegation to the Winter Olympics in South Korea over the weekend.

It did not specify what these instructions were.

While the North Korean dictator, who has yet to meet a foreign leader, has invited the South Korean president for a rare summit, Kim has given no sign of being ready to talk to the U.S. Mr Moon would irritate Mr Trump if he accepts the invitation, while declining would make the US and South Korea appear "unreasonably bellicose", he said.

But U.S. officials have recently softened their stance on opening a dialogue with North Korea.

Kim Jong-un said Kim Yo-jong also relayed the "movement of the USA side" to him, a reference to her brief encounter with U.S. vice president Mike Pence at the Olympics opening ceremony and a signal that relations with Washington remain frosty despite the rapprochement with Seoul. He is also urging the North Koreans to sit down with the United States at the earliest opportunity.

"And I wanted to send by my silence a very clear message that the people of the United States of America know who we're dealing with", he said.

Pence told Axios that regardless of the North-South talks, there was "no daylight" between the allies on the need to intensify pressure on Pyongyang.

Just before departing for Washington, Pence said Saturday evening there was "no daylight" between the USA and South Korea, despite their different approaches to engagement with North Korea, evident during the Pyeongchang Olympic Games.

"I thought that Mike Pence said that it was inappropriate to make political statements at sporting events", co-host Sunny Hostin said, harkening back to Pence's attacks on the National Football League players taking a knee.

North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, has praised the "warm climate of reconciliation and dialogue" after a delegation returned from their three-day visit to the South for the Winter Olympics.

"The Olympics have become a chance for the North to communicate with the worldwide community", the Olympics have become a chance for the North to communicate with the global community", said South Korea's unification minister Cho Myoung-gyon.

As Pence stated, Kim Yo Jong is deputy director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Workers' Party of Korea, the communist regime that runs the state.

A North Korean delegation led by Ms Kim Yo Jong, younger sister of leader Kim Jong Un, ended its visit on Sunday and faces scepticism over Pyongyang's sincerity towards improving relations.

Olympic officials played down a suggestion that the unified Korean ice hockey team could be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on Tuesday and said there had been "no formal discussion" about proposing IOC chief Thomas Bach for the honour.
