Liverpool thrash Porto to close in on quarters

Both clubs impressed in the Champions League this week, with the Reds thrashing Porto 5-0 and Spurs coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Juventus.

In one of Liverpool's best away displays since Klopp took over in October 2015, Mohamed Salah grabbed his 30th goal of the season and Roberto Firmino moved second in this season's Champions League goalscoring charts behind Cristiano Ronaldo with his seventh of the tournament proper.

'All the time people say, three, but I think it is all the team.

The Senegalese forward slotted in his second as Liverpool completely outclassed their opponents, with Roberto Firmino adding his name to the scoresheet with 20 minutes to play, before Mane's searing strike completed his first European hat-trick.

The 37-year-old also hailed the teamwork of the current group, saying: "The work rate of this Liverpool team is very, very special, and you also notice how unselfish they are".

"The most important thing is that we played as a team, and we did that, we played great football and we created a lot of chances", said the Senegalese worldwide.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, saw Alphonse Areola make a fine save from his net-bound shot after he had been released by Marcelo, and not long after that, in the 33rd minute, PSG scored. There was no need for disappointment after hitting the goal frame as Salah collected the rebound, flicked the ball around the goalkeeper, controlled it with his head and slotted it home.

Already facing a record home European defeat, the hosts were sliced apart again in the 69th minute as Mane won the ball, burst forward and released Milner whose low pass into the center was turned in by Firmino.

At the other end, Virgil van Dijk marshalled Liverpool's defence on his Champions League debut for the club following his winter switch from Southampton.

The Reds marked it in some style with the 5-0 win setting a new record as the biggest winning margin for an English side in the competition in a knockout tie away from home, breaking Manchester City's record which was set only 24 hours ago in their 5-1 win over Basel.

"We needed to play as a team and that's what we did", Mane said after his first hat trick for Liverpool.

"We created so many chances and we scored five".

"We are sad, no one is more disappointed than us", he told Sport TV.

The full-back has missed all of the 2017-18 season owing to a back problem, with his last appearance coming in the 3-0 Premier League win over Middlesbrough on May 21.
