Pakistan slams India for 'irresponsible statements' after army camp attack

India has warned Pakistan that it would pay for a deadly militant attack on an Indian army camp in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, the latest violence in the disputed region to stoke tension between the nuclear-armed rivals.

"Intelligence inputs indicate that these terrorists were being controlled by their handlers from across the border", the minister said late on Monday.

"Pakistan will have to pay for this misadventure", she told media.

The attack killed five soldiers and one civilian. "The evidence is being scrutinised by the National Investigation Agency (NIA)". "Pakistan expanding the arc of terror to areas south of Pir Panjal and resorting to ceasefire violations to assist infiltration", said Sitharaman.

Indian officials said intercepted communications indicated militants from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant group, carried out Saturday's attack.

The Defence Minister further said, all the evidence have been compiled and will definitely be given to Pakistan.

She said sanitisation operation is still going on.

Instead of the knee-jerk reaction of blaming Pakistan without substantiation, India must answer for state-sponsored espionage against Pakistan.

She said giving the evidence to Pakistan was a continuous process.

India is destabilizing regional peace in word and deed; through irresponsible statements on nuclear deterrent and through its bloody, five-fold escalation in 2017 of attacks on unarmed civilians on the line-of-control and working boundary. Three terrorists have been eliminated.

The counter-terrorist operation at the base was called off on Monday at 10.30 a.m.

"The fourth terrorist must have been a guide and may not have entered the Camp area", she explained.

She said democracy and dissent are the biggest strengths of the country the reflection of which is being witnessed in the two Houses of the State Legislature, adding, "it would be a tribute to the people that maximum issues of public importance are raised in the Legislature for redressal".
