Vladimir Putin meets Federation Internationale de Football Association president to discuss 2018 World Cup

The Russian president pulled out of his engagements this week, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirming that he was feeling under the weather. On Wednesday, Putin was to participate in a forum of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives.

Putin's voice seemed somewhat hoarse as he addressed the meeting where he apologised for losing his voice.

Putin has been famously secretive about his personal life, including his family, finances and any signs of ailment.

Earlier this week Putin cancelled a planned trip to Sochi, and postponed a meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

"President Putin and Infantino have very kind and personally constructive relations".

Russian President Vladimir Putin received International Football Association (FIFA) president Gianni Infantino Monday, to talk on the preparations of the 2018 World Soccer Cup to be held in Russia in June and July.

For the time being, Vladimir Putin has canceled at least two of his upcoming public events. According to three sources familiar with Putin's schedule, the president will likely skip a reception with technology experts and will not attend a mentoring forum this week.

They reportedly added that, if Putin's illness continues, the President's press office "may have to publish Putin's old meetings with officials in the guise of new ones". It was said that Putin could change his schedule because of certain events in Syria. One source close to the Kremlin told Dozhd this could happen again, as being seen to take a sick day does not play into Putin's re-election strategy ahead of next month's nationwide vote.
