Apple goes family-friendly with new Families page

Apple goes family-friendly with new Families page

According to Axios, Amazon has "arguably done more to create kid-friendly environments within their mobile devices" by allowing parents to create separate profiles for children and its FreeTime Unlimited service that bundles approved apps and videos. The new Families webpage seems like a nice way to give parents some ideas on how to better supervise their children's tech lives, and a part of Apple's bigger picture with parental controls.

Google has been equally vigilant when it comes to regulating a child's screen time with parental tools for most content-based Google apps.

Before this investors published an article stating "Think Differently About Kids."

A separate Oxford University study published previous year said that on average children spent four hours and 45 minutes each day looking at screens in 2015 - this figure was up from an average of two hours and 59 minutes a day in 2000.

CNN now reports that while "Apple isn't rolling out any new features or controls at this time, they have a new "Families" page" as noted in our cover graphic.

But the gesture does detail the measures Apple has already put in place to help keep children safe while using the company's products. The gadgets can be a powerful tool to help in learning but if not used properly. Parents love them. Kids love them.

Also displayed in this section is Apple's "Find My Friends" feature, which can track locations of devices for parents to monitor where their children are.

The new page, which was unveiled on Thursday, is called Families.

The Families page also provides information on how to switch on the blue light filter to reduce stress on the eyes and activate the do not disturb mode so children won't get notifications when they are sleeping or doing their homework. Play Store prevents children from downloading apps or games with mature content. Family Link app provides parents with admin level controls over their child's Android smartphone.
