Apple is said to turn up audio ambition with high-end headphones

Apple is said to turn up audio ambition with high-end headphones

Furthermore, the report claims that Apple has been working on the headphones for at least a year, and that the development has been hampered with undisclosed issues which could push the release date into 2019 (the company now plans to launch them at the end of 2018). A pair of well-designed, high-end headphones, with noise-canceling technology and Siri built-in, could be enough to convince Apple loyalists to drop yet more cash on the company.

These Apple-branded headphones could also cannibalize Beats headphones, although Beats manages to sell lower-priced wireless headphones that probably won't directly compete with the new product. However, people familiar with the plans indicate that the company has faced development challenges that might push back the release.

Bloomberg says the headphones will also include "similar wireless pairing functionality" to Apple's AirPods earbuds, suggesting they will likely include Apple's W1 wireless chip (or its successor) and connect to iPhones and iPads more seamlessly than other devices. Sources say there have been multiple redesigns and note it's possible Apple could change the design again or even scrap the project altogether.

That being said, Apple is said to be preparing noise-cancellation headphones meant to deliver a stellar audio experience to those who are used to acquiring accessories from the likes of Beats and Bose. Apple apparently plans to make its noise-canceling headphones similar to the AirPods in terms of how they pair wirelessly with the iPhone. Beats and Bose both charge $350 for their high-end wireless headphones, while Sennheiser prices range from $100 all the way to $500. Concepts imagine new Apple over-ear headphones. In fact, Apple may end up just canceling the product entirely, according to the media outlet's sources.

So far, the AirPods have been a key driver of newfound success for Apple's Other Products segment. Given their over-the-ear design, they will likely sound superior to the AirPods as well.
