Bentley Bentayga Hybrid can travel 31 miles in EV mode

The company is yet to reveal a price for the Bentayga hybrid, but it is expected to sit below the $235,000 W12 model.

Few details have been released ahead of its proper reveal at this week's Geneva Motor Show, but the big Bentley has an EV range of 50km to achieve its 75g/km carbon dioxide emissions, which makes it nearly as clean and green as a 500kW/850Nm twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 Porsche Panamera Hybrid.

Bentley's taken its first steps toward electrification, unveiling a plug-in hybrid version of its Bentayga super-luxury SUV at the Geneva Motor Show early March. The hybrid platform is the same as that used by the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid, which shouldn't come as a surprise given Porsche and Bentley are both owned by the Volkswagen Group. Thanks to the electric motor's contribution, average Carbon dioxide emissions are just 75 g/km (NEDC), making it Bentley's most efficient model ever. Which is actually for the best, as the hybrid Bentayga only has a range of 31 miles when running under battery power alone.

Two bespoke bags that live in the boot space carry the cables needed to plug the hybrid Bentayga into a wall socket or rapid charger.

As with other hybrids, the plug-in Bentayga has three driving modes to help harvest, store or deploy electricity as the driver requires, and the infotainment system has been updated to include information on performance, consumption, electricity production, and whether the auto is being powered by the engine, the electric motor, or both.

On the styling front, there isn't much to report as the hybrid variant is distinguished by subtle tweaks including "Hybrid" badging and unique wheels with copper accents.

Inside, the Bentayga Hybrid offers everything one would expect from a Bentley: handcrafted wood and leather throughout, as well as polished metal elements on the dashboard, center console, and doors.

Bentley said it will begin taking orders for the vehicle in the second half of 2018 and has yet to announce pricing on the vehicle.
