Case Keenum To Sign With The Denver Broncos

Keenum intends to sign with the Denver Broncos when free agency opens Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Players can not sign free agent contracts until the new league year opens at 2 p.m. Wednesday. That's at least $10 million less than what fellow free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to be paid this offseason.

In 2012 it was Peyton Manning, and this year it's Case Keenum.

However, with the Vikings one of the major contenders for Kirk Cousins' signature, Keenum has been looking to cash in on his status of last year's stellar campaign and the Broncos look to be his landing spot.

Keenum, of course, comes off a season which saw him complete 67.6 percent of his passes with 3,547 yards and 22 touchdowns. Just a few months later, he'll be taking his talents to the Denver Broncos.

All three quarterbacks were draft picks by Elway, the Hall of Fame quarterback who has only had success at quarterback in free agency.

Bradford is also a free agent.

The Broncos went 5-11 last season and have missed the playoffs each of the past two years after winning Super Bowl 50 in the 2015 season.

Keenum is also a player the Broncos felt they knew well given the team's senior personnel adviser and former coach Gary Kubiak coached Keenum for two seasons when Kubiak was the Texans' head coach.

Keenum would have veterans Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders as his targets in Denver after Elway chose not to release either of the expensive wide receivers.

That included choosing among the draft prospects that include Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield and others. It is not certain yet what sort of contract that Keenum, who made $2 million last season, will get. "Obviously, we have to get better at that (quarterback) position". We didn't play very well there previous year, and that's not all on the players. That doesn't all go on the players. There were some things that we should have done, that we should have done differently that we didn't do. "But I feel like we can get right back in the thick of things pretty quickly".
