Cast details revealed for the Jake Gyllenhaal and Dan Gilroy Netflix project

Dan Gilroy, director of Nightcrawler, made headlines a while back when he announced that he'd be re-teaming with Jake Gyllenhaal for his next movie, and that the project would be produced by Netflix. From what we hear, the film is actually a horror movie but detailed plot details are being kept well under-wraps.

For visionary Dan Gilroy, the Netflix horror film will only be his third directorial credit, with 2014's Nightcrawler (for which he earned an Oscar nod for Best Screenplay, ) serving as his behind-camera debut, followed by 2017 Denzel Washington vehicle Roman J. Israel, Esq. If Nightcrawler was any indication, a second Gilroy and Gyllenhaal team-up could mean we're in for another victor.

Joining stars Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo (Nightcrawler) are British actress Zawe Ashton (Nocturnal Animals), Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), Tony Award nominee Tom Sturridge (On the Road), Tony Award victor Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), Academy Award nominee Toni Collette (Hereditary), and Academy Award nominee John Malkovich (Deepwater Horizon). Gilroy's follow-up Roman Israel, Esq. starring Denzel Washington, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) last September but didn't connect either with critics or audiences, even though Denzel received an Oscar nomination for the role.

Zawe Ashton has previously starred alongside Gyllenhaal in last years Nocturnal Animals and has also appeared in the Showtime show, Guerilla. She is repped by APA, Link and Troika.

Daveed Diggs was last seen in Wonder and Dyer is expected to return to her role in season three of Stranger Things. She is repped by WME and One Entertainment.

Collette is coming off some of the best reviews of her career in the Sundance film "Hereditary". Collette is repped by CAA and United Management.

I didn't hate Roman Israel, Esq, even if it a bit meandering compared to Nightcrawler, and with a cast like that (especially reuniting with Gyllenhaal and Russo), I'll be looking forward to Gilroy's latest venture.
