Federation Internationale de Football Association called to investigate racial chants against Pogba

Federation Internationale de Football Association called to investigate racial chants against Pogba

In reaction to the behavior, French Sports Minister Laura Flessel-Colovic tweeted: "Racism does not have its place on soccer fields".

"Please understand, until we have evaluated all information available, we can not comment further".

Monkey chants could be heard from the crowd in St. Petersburg on Tuesday when black French players touched the ball in a friendly against Russian Federation.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele were among those said to be targeted by monkey noises during a friendly against the World Cup hosts in St Petersburg on Tuesday.

"We have to take action together on a European and worldwide level to bring an end to this intolerable behaviour".

" Le racisme n'a pas sa place sur les terrains de football".

A report from FARE is being prepared and that the body has identified the chanting from footage. Football authorities have been accused of failing to be tough enough on supporter abuse.

The statement went on to reiterate FIFA's "zero tolerance approach to discrimination" and highlighted a series of initiatives aimed at promoting diversity across the global game.

"If photographers heard it pitch-side, then there must have been stewards and other officials who also heard it", Fare Network executive director Piara Powar said.

"If these guys don't know what to do, and they're not initiating procedures and protocols that exist, then that doesn't bode very well for the World Cup", he said.

"Kick It Out also believes the Football Association should ensure it provides increased protection from racial abuse for England's black players and supporters during this summer's FIFA World Cup".

Federation Internationale de Football Association said Wednesday in a statement it was collecting evidence and would contact the anti-discrimination Fare Network, which helps world soccer's governing body investigate racism cases. Last week, UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the club for racist chants during a recent Europa League match against RB Leipzig.

Pogba was named in the starting lineup in St. Petersburg on what would have been his late father's 80th birthday.
