Former JK finance minister Drabu says pained at sacking without being heard

Former JK finance minister Drabu says pained at sacking without being heard

"We seriously need to look at in terms of how it is a society that is in search for itself".

The PDP leadership was apparently annoyed with Drabu for dismissing the political nature of the Kashmir issue although he himself had in the agenda of alliance got the clause inserted for political resolution of the problem by holding dialogue with all stake holders including the separatists who have been making anti-India statements and maligning the Indian Army and security forces.

Drabu was removed from the cabinet after his speech in Delhi describing Kashmir as a social problem and not a political problem.

Drabu said that it was made in the larger context of how society in Kashmir has been ravaged and has impaired real-life situations and sensibilities especially of the youth. "The fact is that it is a long-held belief and I have repeatedly said it that the engagement with Kashmir should be at various levels".

The sacking of Drabu, an eminent economist and the main architect of the BJP-PDP alliance and its agenda of governance, came a day after the Peoples Democratic Party asked him to retract what it said was "detrimental to the party's interests".

Very subtly, Dr Drabu took credit for designing the PDP's ideological basis, and drafting the various documents that constitute the foundation of the party's politics, including Self Rule, the Agenda of Alliance, and election manifestoes, saying that he had been involved in the task by Mufti Muhammad Sayeed himself.

He was the chairman and CEO of the Jammu & Kashmir Bank from 2005 to 2010.

He said to his best understanding and knowledge, whatever he had stated in his speech did not go against the articulated and stated political position of PDP. "J&K is not at all a conflict state nor is it a political issue". He was the public works (road and buildings) minister during the tenure of former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

There were reports that the coterie led by Mehbooba's maternal uncle and vice-president of PDP Sartaj Madni was unhappy with Drabu who was an authority in financial sector and was trying to stem out corruption by introducing the online system of payments by government departments.
