Haley Warns US May Unleash Massive New Airstrikes in Syria

On Monday, the group had announced that it would treat people outside of eastern Ghouta through an agreement "via the United Nations with Russian Federation".

SANA news agency reported that the families left the eastern Ghouta through a "safe corridor" at the al-Wafideen crossing point.

Observers have accused Russian Federation of exploiting a clause that allowed for anti-terrorism operations to continue fighting rebels in eastern Ghouta.

The government onslaught of Eastern Ghouta began on February 18 with a ferocious air campaign followed by a ground operation that has recaptured almost 60 percent of rebel territory.

It would also protect UN-designated terrorists - like the group formerly known as Al-Nusra Front, which Russian Federation says is playing the lead role in this area - and give the militants time to regroup.

France's envoy to the United Nations, Francois Delattre, on Monday urged Moscow to put pressure on its ally to halt the offensive, saying: "Russia can stop the bloodbath".

Haley´s warning came as the United States asked the Security Council to demand an immediate 30-day ceasefire in Damascus and rebel-held eastern Ghouta.

"The Security Council failed to act and the United States successfully struck the air base from which Assad had launched this chemical attack", Haley said.

Thousands of families are sleeping in the open in the streets of the biggest town in the enclave, where there is no longer any room in packed cellars to shelter from government bombardment, local authorities said.

Residents were seen queueing at a butcher shop, whose owner had slaughtered a calf that he could fatten up no further because there was nothing left to feed it.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in early 2011 when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity. "Disproportionate attacks in densely populated areas kill a growing proportion of children who now account for one quarter of civilian deaths", UNICEF spokeswoman Marixie Mercado said in a news conference in Geneva.

"My children would come to me and say "Daddy, we don't want to die" here," he said.

"Those operating on the ground in eastern Ghouta and led by the Al-Nusra Front do not want to meet their obligations", he added.

The Ghouta enclave is home to almost 400,000 people, under army siege since 2013 without enough food, water, or medicine, the world body says.

Elsewhere in the Syrian capital, the military said it had seized a southern suburb after an evacuation deal which saw 1,000 people bussed to Idlib, the last major rebel stronghold, in the country's north-east.

The US asked the Security Council to demand an immediate 30-day ceasefire in Damascus and rebel-held eastern Ghouta, where Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces, backed by Russian Federation and Iran, say they are targeting "terrorist" groups which are shelling the capital.

He said that the lab contained vials for mixing chemicals as well as vats and mixing and heating equipment, in addition to a variety of materials used to make toxic chemicals and explosives, including substances containing chlorine, as well as Saudi books and papers for the so-called Jaish al-Islam Takfiri outfit. The violence is some of the worst of Syria's seven-year-old conflict to date.

Turkey launched a military offensive into the border enclave on January 20 to drive out Syrian Kurdish forces that it considers to be "terrorists" and an extension of Kurdish rebels fighting inside Turkey.
