Jets to target Teddy Bridgewater if they miss out on Kirk Cousins

Jets to target Teddy Bridgewater if they miss out on Kirk Cousins

The Jets also re-signed Josh McCown to a one-year, $10 million deal on Tuesday.

The New York Jets have roughly $90 million in cap space, the most in the National Football League, although they've been quiet throughout the first 24 hours of free agency.

This marks the second quarterback the Jets are expected to sign, joining Josh McCown.

QB Kirk Cousins: As expected, the Jets made a run at Cousins but he opted to go to Minnesota.

While Bridgewater, 26, is still young, he comes with plenty of risks, so the Jets are smart to have other options in place.

With the possibility looming that Cousins could sign with the Vikings before ever meeting with the Jets, New York instead is bringing back its 38-year-old starter who had a career season last year. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadn't announced it.

The New York Jets are finalizing a deal with quarterback Teddy Bridgwater, per CBS Sports' Bryant McFadden. Coming off a gruesome knee injury that cost him the last two seasons, Bridgewater is not going to get big money. Signing Bridgewater will not stop the Jets from drafting a quarterback at No. 6, and perhaps that's the point in him being their "first choice" now.

As for Teddy, this will be his first full season following his horrendous injury.

Bridgewater joins a Jets team that also has Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg in the QB room.

The Jets also appeared poised to make a big splash on defense, with multiple reports saying Tuesday night that NY was close to signing both former Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson and former Titans linebacker Avery Williamson.
