Porsche 911 GT3 RS gets faster still with Weissach Package

Porsche 911 GT3 RS gets faster still with Weissach Package

New Weissach Package offering cuts weight with carbon fiber.

Perhaps no automaker better takes an iconic vehicle and tweaks it everso slightly to the squealing delight of a dedicated fan base than Porsche and its 911. With a 4.0-liter flat-six making 514 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque, the GT3 RS is estimated by Porsche to hit 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds flat, and thanks to a new aero kit, generate twice as much downforce as the regular 911 GT3.

The combination of the package and the mag wheels takes about 38 pounds off the vehicle, bringing curb weight down to 3,153 pounds, according to Porsche.

Based on the 911 GT3 RS just unveiled in Geneva, the optional Weissach Package is available for the first time on a 911 GT3 RS model and complements the most powerful naturally aspirated road-going 911 ever with additional lightweight components, Porsche notes. More significantly, this reduces weight in one of the most important areas of the vehicle. They're not part of the Weissach package, but they can only be ordered for a Weissach-equipped GT3 RS. The net package weight reduction: about 13 pounds. The wing itself features the Porsche logo across its width.

Underneath, carbon fiber is used for the stabilizer bars and stabilizer coupling rods, saving 11.9 pounds. Other interior highlights include carbon fiber racing seats, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and lightweight door panels with pull straps.

Since weight is the enemy of performance, the 911 GT3 RS has polyurethane bumpers and a magnesium roof. The hood, roof, wing and trunk lid are all naked carbon. Inside, the Weissach Package adds a logo on the headrests and a badge on the dashboard. Additionally, Porsche also offers a set of magnesium wheels, which shed an additional 25 pounds.

The 911 GT3 RS's Weissach package announces its presence with a carbon fiber roof that saves 1.1 pounds versus the 911 GT3's standard magnesium roof (which happens to be 2 pounds lighter than a typical aluminum roof). That means buying a fully equipped 911 GT3 RS will set you back $266,240.
