Shane McMahon Taking Indefinite Leave of Absence as WWE SmackDown Commissioner

Shane McMahon announced an indefinite leave of absence as Smackdown Commissioner on this week's episode and was attacked by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens after booking them in a match against each other at WrestleMania.

Shane McMahon is leaving SmackDown Live-at least from a storyline perspective.

The card for WrestleMania is going to be stacked with potential matches and it would be odd to have both a match between Zayn and Owens over their dissolved friendship-something that Owens had a year ago with Chris Jericho-as well as a similar feud between Bayley and Sasha Banks, but WWE has copied and pasted storylines in the past, so it's possible.

Earlier on the show, Shane McMahon addressed the WWE Universe and announced that he would be taking a temporary leave of absence due to his recent actions, as reported by Wrestling Inc.

"He sustained a laryngeal contusion when the steel chair was wrapped around his head and thrown into the turnbuckle", WWE medical staff said. The duo went on to drag Shane backstage, where he was powerbombed onto a metal rack, resulting in trapezius and rhomboid strains.

At the Grandest Stage Of Them All they will likely finish the Smackdown commissioner portion of the feud, and thus we get our big blow off of the Owens/McMahon feud and transition into another classic Zayn vs. Owens series.

As it stands, Owens and Zayn are slated to face off at WrestleMania, but all indicators point to that match being altered. This brutal attack on Shane McMahon by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn could lead Bryan to side with his boss.

Opinion: Thank goodness. I haven't been a fan of McMahon's time as Commissioner as he's been all over the show and received far too much attention in the role. That should pave the way for this lengthy angle to end and for Owens and Zayn to potentially go their separate ways after WrestleMania 34.
