Third nor'easter in 2 weeks is pummeling New England

More power outages are possible, but they are not expected to be as widespread as last week. While we may see a bit of a mix of rain and snow, the precip type should turn to all snow quickly. Mostly cloudy with a high near 41.

"Localized amounts up to 25 inches [are] expected near the Baxter State Park region", the weather service wrote in a warning issued Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has put a winter storm warning in effect from 11 p.m. Monday night to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Photos from Woodbury, N.Y., posted overnight showed a layer of snow covering the roads.

Although the latest storm was not expected to bring as many power outages as a nor'easter last week because the snow is lighter and fluffier, more than 150,000 customers in MA lost power by late Tuesday morning.

Another nor'easter began dumping snow and causing hazardous travel conditions early Tuesday morning.

Ekster said it will snow all day Tuesday, through the evening hours Tuesday, and into Wednesday.

Strong winds are expected Tuesday in New England. Powerful winds will pummel the east coast, with sustained winds ranging from 25 miles per hour around Boston and indirect coastal areas to 40-45 miles per hour in coastal towns, like Provincetown, Chatham and Nantucket, as well as Gloucester up north.

The week started off sunny with highs near 44 expected.

"We're actually just starting and getting lineups ready, it's snowing, we haven't had our first match yet", said senior Tim Geiger. Residents in New Jersey and New York City's northern suburbs were the worst hit, while the third nor'easter took aim at coastal CT and the shores of Long Island.

The Boston area will likely be one of the hardest hit, with around two feet of snow expected. A renewed surge of cold air will then become entrenched over the eastern USA behind the storm, leading to unseasonably cold temperatures for March to continue through the middle of the week, with Florida also feeling the effects of the colder weather. Only minor coastal flooding is possible.

Last Thursday, another storm dumped roughly a foot of heavy snow throughout much of the state and knocked out power to roughly 27,000 Mainers, mostly in York County.

Baker said he was primarily anxious about the capacity of utility crews to respond to outages, given the amount of work they have been putting in on street-by-street repairs in the wake of the other storms that have hit the state this month.

Accumulating snow could continue into the evening, however, the snow should wind down through the evening.

"This one's main impact is going to be snow", said Kim Buttrick, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Taunton, Massachusetts. The city's snowfall record for March was 21.9 inches set on March 12-14, 1939.

According to Nouhan, Bangor's snowiest winter on record was in 1962-1963, when it got 181 inches.
