Three-peat: Another major winter storm batters the Northeast

Three-peat: Another major winter storm batters the Northeast

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement through 8 p.m. today as snow showers could create slippery road conditions and reduce visibility.

Amtrak has suspended service between Boston and New York City through Tuesday night but will restore the line to travelers on Wednesday.

Yet another winter storm - a nor'easter - has just hit northeast United States, the third in two weeks.

The service's Taunton, Massachusetts, office said on Twitter late Tuesday morning that automated observing sites in Hyannis, Falmouth, and Plymouth recorded three consecutive hours of blizzard conditions despite some missing observations due to a power loss.

"We are freezing", the 39-year-old James said. "Six more weeks of winter, and probably then some", said Paul Knight, of Portland, Maine, as snow accumulated on his eyebrows.

So far power outages have climbed to more than 250,000 just in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and CT. Gusts approached 70 miles per hour on Cape Cod, the weather service said. Gov. Gina Raimondo urged residents to stay off the roads and let the plows and work crews do their jobs.

Gusty winds will remain most of the day throughout the Northeast with the strongest winds in New England.

Boston's Logan International Airport, almost deserted Tuesday, resumed flights Wednesday.

Not everyone complained. Andrew Gesler, who was walking in Portland with his son in a stroller and his dog alongside, said he was happy to see another big storm.

"If I lost power, we'd (still) celebrate Mass", Healey said. "It'll hit New England the hardest". Another 12 to 18 inches is expected, said James Brown, of the National Weather Service.

Light snow is still falling across the region, and will begin tapering off through the evening.

BOSTON - A nor'easter that could deliver up to 2 feet of snow to some areas socked New England on Tuesday, bringing blizzard conditions to parts of coastal MA, covering highways with snow and knocking out power to tens of thousands.

In New Hampshire, where as much as 14 inches of snow is forecast, the storm is wreaking havoc with the age-old town meeting tradition.

Snow is ongoing in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and ME, as well as on Long Island, New York.

More than a foot of snow is expected in parts of CT, where Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is urging people to "take it slow and remember their winter weather driving skills".
