Woman gives birth in the Red Sea in incredible photos

At the moment, it's unclear whether the woman meant to give birth in the sea, or whether she went into labour suddenly while swimming. According to the Daily Mail on Tuesday, the woman and the newborn appeared to be "happy and healthy" after the water birth.

The original photos were shared by fellow tourist Hadia Hosny El Said on March 10.

Incredible photos capturing the moment a pregnant tourist gave birth to her baby in the Red Sea close to the resort town of Dahab, Egypt, have gone viral.

The images show a man carrying the newborn with the umbilical chord still attached and the father of the baby is seen carrying the placenta in a bowl. They were shot from a resort balcony overlooking the beach, the UK's Metro reported. She does not look as if she just went through labour and looks more like she had just gone for a swim.

The woman, her husband and their baby have not been named, and there is no report on the baby's gender or condition.

Mohamed's niece Hadia Honsy El Said posted the images on social media, writing: "The mother came out of the sea after giving birth and it was nothing". Then he took pictures of the mother coming out of the water as she had just taken a swim, and greeting her other child on the beach. However, if the older man present at the birth is, indeed, a Russian doctor, it would be more likely that the underwater delivery was planned.

Water births are preferred by many parents as it reduces the stress felt by the baby and mother when compared to normal births.

One social media user also wrote: "The sea was really red that day!" According to the BabyCentre article, legends state that Egyptian pharaohs were born in "shallow sea water".
