YouTube extends its 'Dark Theme' to Android and iOS

Dark mode has a few advantages.

After introducing a dark theme for YouTube on the web, Google is bringing a dark theme for YouTube to mobile devices.

YouTube is finally giving its mobile app a dark theme, almost a year after the Google subsidiary introduced the night-friendly mode on desktop. (The darker theme will come to Android "soon.") The feature, which is already available on desktop but pretty well hidden, lets you change the regular bright white theme to a more cinematic, black and grey look.

To toggle on/off the new Dark Theme, just tap your profile icon, go to Settings and then you'll see the toggle setting to turn it on or off.

Dark themes on mobile have become more popular in recent times with services like Twitter, Reddit and Telegram embracing the dark theme. But even with new evidence that the whole app was going dark, it was clear that significant work remained, with some screens stuck in a halfway state: white text, but also a white background.

YouTube looks much better with the dark theme, and the viewing experience is definitely superior.

With the update, YouTube joins a growing list of apps that feature a dark mode.
