Arsene Wenger has complained at VAR decision

It seems it has taken this disappointing run for the manager to recognise issues at Arsenal that have always been apparent to fans and pundits alike. There is no Emirates Cup competition this year but potentially five further Europa League qualifying dates on Aug 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

Arsenal Fan TV are going to have a field-day, aren't they?

The second half was a much tighter affair but it was the Magpies who got the victor in the 68th minute when Matt Ricthie calmly slotted home from close range to seal all three points for Rafael Benítez's men.

Wenger will leave Arsenal in a better position than when he took them on over two decades ago (even if that scale has dipped massively in the past decade), but his devotion to self-reservation means that they are in danger of losing their status at Europe's top table.

'When a team goes down it is very hard to come straight back up and to then have the sort of season we are having.

When did Arsenal suddenly have this reputation for expecting and getting entertaining football?

According to the Shields Gazette, Rafa Benitez has praised Islam Slimani's substitute performance against Arsenal in their 2-1 victory yesterday.

Last week, it was announced that Premier League clubs voted against the use of VAR for the Premier League in the 2018/19 season after a vote from the top 20 English sides.

That is the verdict of former Premier League star turned pundit Danny Murphy.

It did look promising for the Gunners at one stage after Alexandre Lacazette gave Arsène Wenger's men the lead in the 14th minute with a good finish at the end of a well-worked move.

"I think the first thing to say is to congratulate the club, the fans, the staff, the players, everybody because it was a massive effort this year".

Newcastle enjoyed another escape four minutes later when Lacazette robbed Mohamed Diame and fed Joe Willock, only for the teenager to mis-kick with the goal at his mercy on his Premier League debut.
