Canberra, Gold Coast get worldwide cricket in new-look schedule

- Metricon Stadium on Gold Coast to host global cricket.

"Canberra cricket fans will have more opportunity than ever before to witness world-class cricket in person and be part of history at the very first global test match played at Manuka Oval".

Australia will be without the banned Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for this summer due to the trio's involvement in the ball-tampering saga that rocked cricket.

"It is our preference that we play India in a day-night Test match in Adelaide, but we are still working through this detail and hope to have an answer on this in the coming weeks".

India make the trip to play in all three formats, while Sri Lanka arrive for a two-Test series.

All three matches will be broadcast live with the men's global Test and women's T20I available on Seven and Fox Cricket while the Prime Ministers XI will be broadcast on Fox Cricket.

Canberra's Manuka Oval will then host its first test match from February 1 when the home side meet Sri Lanka in their second and final fixture. Perth Stadium will then host its maiden test from December 14 when India visit.

Adelaide has hosted day-night Tests in the last three years against New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and England and they are hoping to stage another match under lights against India.

Brisbane has missed out on one of the four Tests against India earlier in the summer which have gone to Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne. "The Border-Gavaskar Trophy promises to be a bumper series, and it will be headlined by the world-famous Boxing Day Test at the MCG", he added. Hobart has been the major loser of Canberra's rise.

Manuka Oval will host one of the most action-packed Canberra summers of cricket in its history, with three worldwide matches scheduled across all three formats of the game.

"I think in the foreseeable future we are going to see Big Bash cricket here", Sutherland said.

The Carrara venue, which is the home ground of the AFL's Gold Coast Suns and recently staged the athletics at the Commonwealth Games, may be considered for use during the 2018/19 Big Bash League.

An Indo-Australian series generates a fair amount of buzz in the cricketing fraternity.
