She also said that all this time healing allowed her to spend more time with her husband Mike Fisher and their son Isaiah: "I've been calling it 'forced relaxation.' Sometimes I think things happen in order to make us slow down".

Both country stars are set to perform at Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards, which will mark something of a comeback for Underwood as her first public appearance after suffering a major injury to her face and wrist past year.

Chris Stapleton, who released two top-selling albums previous year, is the top nominee with eight. She performed her song "Legends".

Carrie Underwood revealed on her blog that she needed 40 to 50 stitches on her face after falling outside her Nashville home in November.

The singer said that the single feels especially meaningful amid the devastating Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting in Las Vegas in October 2017.

The ACM Awards will air tonight, April 15, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, in a live broadcast from the Garden Arena at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The reigning king of the country albums chart is up for eight honors at the 53rd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, including the top prize: entertainer of the year.

While Underwood took to lying low in the months since as she recovered, she recently made her way back into the spotlight. Meanwhile, Tim and Faith McGraw released their first album together. "Maren Morris could win this year and that could be a huge upset". Morris earned two nods in the vocal event category, as she is also nominated for "Craving You", her duet with Thomas Rhett.

Carrie Underwood is set for a highly anticipated comeback performance at the 2018 ACM awards.

McEntire says it's important to show that the victims are not forgotten.

Presenters for the show include Sam Elliott (who will be in Oklahoma City to emcee the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum's Western Heritage Awards with his wife, Katharine Ross), David Boreanaz, Drew Brees, AJ Buckley, Cam, Eve, Ashton Kutcher, Dustin Lynch, Nancy O'Dell, Rebecca Romijn, Max Thieriot and Lindsey Vonn.
