Ed Sheeran in Talks to Join Danny Boyle's Beatles-Themed Musical Comedy

Director Danny Boyle's untitled comedy starring Lily James and Kate McKinnon will hit theaters in the US on September 13, 2019, Universal announced Monday.

Sheeran has previously appeared in The Simpsons, Game of Thrones, Bridget Jones' Baby, Home and Away, and The Bastard Executioner.

The British superstar musician, Ed Sheeran, is now said by a British tabloid to be in talks to star in Danny Boyle and Richard Curtis's upcoming untitled musical comedy. According to Deadline, the Universal film will also star Lily James and Himesh Patel. If the tabloid paper is to be believed, Working Title will be the studio helming the project. He is the biggest hit-maker on the planet.

Richard Curtis wrote the script, which is keeping its logline close to the vest. In 2014, the 27-year old musician was a guest on The Night That Changed America, a Grammys tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan show in 1964.

His rendition of the foursome's track In My Life was so impressive that The Beatles" Paul McCartney sent Sheeran a signed guitar saying: "For Ed, who is brilliant'.

It's not even clear if he would be the character who wakes up remembering Beatles songs, or if he'd just appear in the movie and someone else would have that role. There is now no other major release scheduled for that date, although it will be competing against the second week of IT: Chapter Two, which opens September 6, 2019.
