FAMILY FINDER: Help Joey find a family

A family of four from Santa Clarita (Los Angeles County) had been reported missing and their travel plans - from Klamath, near the border between California and OR, to San Jose - lined up with where the auto was found, Taylor said. "These items were of a personal nature and will not be described further at this time, but it does confirm the fact the vehicle that was seen going into the river was that of the Thottapilly family".

The Thottapilly family left Valencia, Calif., on March 30, driving more than 900 miles to Portland and stopping at several destinations along the way.

Before the family was reported missing, authorities were already searching for a vehicle that had been seen falling into the roiling Eel River on April 6.

The California Highway Patrol responded Friday to reports of a vehicle falling off the side of a steep embankment on the 101 Freeway in Mendocino County, according to the LA Times. According to the CHP, the crews were unable to find the vehicle or any people, but they found more items consistent with a Honda vehicle. The SUV that the witness spotted matched the description of the vehicle the Thottapilly family owned, they said.

"We're all just going to do what we can to support them and let them know that they're not alone and that they're loved", Ring said.

The Mendocino County Sheriffs Office has been in contact with numerous other county dive teams and technical rescue responders that can be called upon, when the vehicle is located, to assist with recovery of the vehicle.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter and the Humboldt County Sheriff's boat have joined the search.

Vehicle parts recovered from the water had serial numbers that helped authorities identify the auto as a maroon 2016 Honda Pilot SUV, Taylor said, but the auto itself has not been located.

Family and friends of 18-year-old Nathaniel Prasad of Hayward, who was fatally shot by seven Fremont police officers last week, held a vigil in his honor Thursday near the intersection where he died.

Earlier, Gujarat resident Thottapally Babu Subramaniam tweeted to Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on April 9, urging her to help locate his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
