Jewish groups call Corbyn anti-Semitism meeting 'disappointing'

"If I saw anti-Semitism in the Labour Party I'd be the first person to say it was absolutely atrocious", she said.

Mr Corbyn is set for a crunch meeting on Tuesday with Jewish leaders to discuss what steps he has taken to address anti-Semitism in the Labour Party.

Corbyn said he was "absolutely committed" to rooting out anti-Semitism in the party and had instructed new general secretary Jennie Formby to overhaul its disciplinary procedures to ensure complaints were dealt with "swiftly and fairly".

Corbyn has apologised for what he called "pockets of anti-Semitism" and pledged to do more to act on people's concerns.

"My party and I are sorry for the hurt and distress caused", Mr. Corbyn wrote in the Evening Standard.

They warned that the Jewish community will not be able to trust Mr Corbyn until he turns his "strong words against antisemitism into equally strong actions".

Co-chair of the Jewish Voice for Labour Jenny Manson voiced these concerns during an interview with BBC Radio 4 on April 24 and added that most anti-Semitic comments made to MPs were done via social media, with numerous offenders using anonymous accounts.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews comprises nearly 300 representatives elected by synagogues and other Jewish organizations from across the United Kingdom and seeks to advocate for the interests of the Jewish community among British decision-makers.

The organisations also held a demonstration outside parliament last month attended by various lawmakers, including prominent Labour MPs.

"We can not and will not fail our Jewish brothers and sisters now".

Labour is under renewed pressure to root out anti-Semitism from within its ranks after MPs spoke out about the attacks they had faced in a highly-charged Commons debate this week. Additionally, they have urged the Labour Party to speed up disciplinaryproceedings related to such offenses.
