Mehbooba Mufti requests J&K High Court to fast track Kathua rape case

United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres has termed the gangrape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua a "horrific" incident and asked Indian authorities to ensure that the guilty are brought to justice.

Jammu: The family of the eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua has made a decision to request the Supreme Court to transfer the trial to another state.

Singh, who held the Environment and Forest portfolio and Ganga, the Industries and Commerce Minister, submitted their resignations to state BJP chief Satpal Sharma. Her body was recovered a week later in some bushes, not far from her home in Rasana village of Kathua district in Jammu region.

The chief minister requested the chief justice for establishment of the special fast track court for the case, official sources said. Both the alliance partners - the BJP and the PDP - had separate legislature party meetings in Srinagar and Jammu on Saturday to discuss the situation arising out of the polarisation in the state over the rape-cum-murder of the girl. "We are ashamed as a society, as a country".

"Heartening to see the Supreme Court take cognisance of the attempted obstruction of justice by some lawyers in the brutal Kathua rape & murder case reminding us once again of the greatness of this nation", she wrote.

"The CBI investigation was demanded to find out and bring on surface as to who actually had started playing communal card during the entire period of time".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday condemned the rape and gave an assurance that justice would be done.

"This serves as a cue that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can hold a beacon of hope for the whole country amid the harshly polarized discourse", she added. According to Talib, he was in a debate with the family members of the deceased victim, when few workers of RSS and district president BJP Udhampur Rakesh Gupta attacked him.

Several protests in several cities have already taken place across India.

A crisis had overtaken the Peoples Democratic Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition in the state over the role of these two ministers.

Also, if the two BJP ministers from Jammu and Kashmir were merely being misled, then where was the need to sack them from the cabinet?
