Mercedes-Benz Introduces Long-Wheelbase A-Class for China

Mercedes-Benz Introduces Long-Wheelbase A-Class for China

Mercedes-Benz has pulled the covers off the all-new A-Class L Sedan ahead of its Beijing show debut on Wednesday.

Like the new Mercedes-Maybach SUV but wish it was a bit less bulky? The sedan has inherited the main stylistic elements of the prototype Concept A, presented in 2017 at the motor show in Shanghai. Its appearance combines the distinctive front-end styling of the recently introduced fourth-generation A-Class hatchback, while its rear end is reminiscent of the latest third-generation CLS. The wheelbase of the new amounted to 2789 mm by 60 mm bigger than the standard hatchback.

At 181.5 ins. (4,610 mm) in length, 70.7 ins. (91 mm) longer than the Audi A3 sedan. It looks like a shrunken S-Class or compact C-Class sedan made for newbies to the fold.

The new Mercedes A-Class Saloon has debuted at the Beijing Motor Show in long wheelbase guise, ahead of an arrival in the United Kingdom in standard wheelbase.

That means customers will get the choice of SE, Sport and AMG Line specifications, and three engine options - a 1.5-litre diesel and two petrol units in the shape of a 1.4-litre and a 2.0-litre. It also is more of a notchback sedan than the CLA, which sports a steep-sloping "four-door coupe" roofline.

So far, the Germans have only revealed the China-going model, which wears the letter L after its nameplate, as a mark of a longer wheelbase.

In the L Sedan's case however, the system is said to be perfectly fluent in Chinese dialects such as Sichuanese and Cantonese. The DB11 replaces a auto that was growing old on the vine, and it selectively uses components from partner Mercedes-Benz.

China it seems can't get enough of the compact class from Mercedes. It has to decide between the new A-Class sedan and the yet-to-be-revealed next-gen CLA as both models have their strengths that will appeal to Indian buyers.

The A-Class models long have been sold globally but not here.
