Oklahoma president David Boren suffers 'minor stroke' at Sooners' spring game

He had spoken earlier in the ceremony.

After Saturday's spring game, OU coach Lincoln Riley was asked about Boren. Boren smiled as he was being taken away. He had dinner with his family in the evening. "He is alert and communicating with family and his excellent team of medical professionals at OU Medical Center". "President and Mrs. (Molly) Boren deeply appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received".

While athletic director Joe Castiglione took over speaking duties, paramedics huddled and planned to check on Boren's status.

"When they brought the stretcher out, he was talking", Castiglione said.

Boren, 76, had only just spoke before Stoops took the podium to make some remarks. He became the school's president in 1994 after resigning from his Senate seat and is set to retire from his role as OU president at the end of June.

OU officials announced last month that James L. Gallogly will be the next president at the university. The expected-to-be-cheerful ceremony honored the former coach, who retired from Oklahoma during the summer of 2017.

"It's tough to describe", Riley said. He's a guy that I'm very close to, means a lot to me, and (it was) so tough for it to be such a great event and great thing and to see him not feeling well. He compiled a 190-48 record in 18 seasons and guided the Sooners to the 2000 national championship.

It seems unthinkable now, after Stoops' almost two decades of success, including 10 Big 12 titles, a National Championship and 190 victories, that there was a time when the University of Oklahoma wasn't that good at football.
