Reuben Foster's college coach: 'We don't condone this kind of behavior'

Per the release, the alleged victim flagged down a stranger's auto following an altercation with Foster in which he physically threw her out of their home, pulled her hair and punched her in the head eight to 10 times.

The 49ers made Foster the 31st-overall pick in last year's draft.

A statement from 49ers CEO Jed York, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan read: "Reuben Foster will not participate in team activities as he is tending to his legal matters".

"As previously stated, [Foster's] future with the team will be determined by the information revealed during the legal process", the Niners' statement said Sunday. In addition to those felonies, Foster has been charged with misdemeanor possession of a large-capacity-weapon magazine.

The informal ban from offseason workouts at the facility does not preclude the 49ers from assisting Foster off the field, and that includes support from Lynch, front-office advisor Keena Turner and player engagement director Austin Moss.

The DA's office said Friday it is prepared to prosecute Foster even if the reported victim ends up not testifying, an issue that stymied previous domestic-violence cases against players.

The 49ers' offseason program will begin Monday without linebacker Reuben Foster, who was charged last week with three felonies stemming from a February incident with his girlfriend. She was bruised and sustained a ruptured ear drum, according to the DA's office.

The offseason program is the de facto start of the new season for players.

"But we're going to remain supportive and try to help our players every way that we can", Saban said. "He is now facing two strikes, under the three strikes law".

"The 49ers organization is aware of today's disturbing charges regarding Reuben Foster".

The Santa Clara District Attorney informed Foster's attorney the misdemeanor would be dropped at his next schedule court date April 30. This Office has been advised that a judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego has issued an injunction prohibiting enforcement of the misdemeanor ammunition charge, pending review by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

If Foster is able to return to the field this fall, he'll be on thin ice, as one more off-the-field incident could very well cause his National Football League career to come to an end.
